A Tail of Love: How Mable Found Her Happily Ever After

Home at Last: Mable's Journey from Rescue to Beloved Family Member

When Christine and Matt R. first met Mable, a beautiful German Shepherd mix with soulful eyes, they knew she was meant to be part of their family. Having fostered for Mobile Mutts Rescue in the past, Christine had seen many dogs come and go, but there was something special about Mable that captured their hearts.

"She was beautiful and got along so well with our other dog Maverick, who is also a rescue," Christine recalls. That harmonious first meeting was a sign of the wonderful relationship that would develop between the two dogs.

From Hesitant Beginnings to Confident Companion

When Mable first arrived at Christine and Matt's home in October 2024, she was underweight and unaccustomed to the comforts many pets take for granted. "Mable wasn't used to fluffy dog beds and the finer things in life. She would just lay on the cold floor," Christine shares. "She was also so thin when we got her."

But with patience, love, and plenty of good nutrition, Mable began to flourish. Now, she's discovered the joy of comfort and security. She's developed a healthy appetite, enjoying her meals and treats with enthusiasm. Christine beams when talking about Mable's transformation: "Now she loves her food. She also loves doggy daycare. And her brother Maverick. Oh, and she's a toy dog which I love!"

A Day in Mable's Life

Mable has settled into a comfortable routine that brings her joy every day. Her mornings begin with a run around the yard alongside Maverick, both dogs relishing the fresh air and open space as they explore and play. After working up an appetite, breakfast is followed by a well-deserved morning nap around 11 AM. A midday snack at 1 PM helps keep Mable’s energy up, and dinner is served around 6 PM. Throughout the day, she enjoys plenty of pets and snuggles, with special cozy time on the couch or in bed in the evening. Though naturally quiet, Mable has learned to use her voice when it matters most. "She knows the routine," Christine says with a smile, "and she will use her voice if she doesn't get her snuggles at night."

The Rewards of Rescue

For Christine and Matt, bringing Mable into their home has been an enriching experience. "It made me realize you can love two dogs just as much as you can love one dog," Christine reflects. "This is our first time having two dogs."

When asked about the most rewarding part of adopting a rescue animal, Christine doesn't hesitate: "Saving a life, and giving a dog the best life possible."

Her advice for families considering adoption is heartfelt and straightforward: "If you could open up your heart and home to an animal that's in need, it's the most rewarding experience."

A Family Complete

Today, Mable is thriving in her forever home, surrounded by love and companionship. Her journey from a thin, hesitant rescue to a confident, joy-filled family member is a testament to the difference that patience, love, and a stable home can make in a dog's life.

As Christine watches Mable and Maverick play together in the yard or snuggle up for evening cuddles, she knows that their family wouldn't be complete without both of their rescue companions. Mable's story is just one of many success stories from Mobile Mutts Rescue, but for Christine and Matt, it's the most important one of all.
